Established in 2003, it is Ireland's first independent principal investment and advisory firm focused on financial services in South America. Its expertise is based on over 40 years of combined experience, advising direction of financial institutions, central banks and financial services regulators in Latin America.

The Principal Investment operations are centered around Abbeyfield Financial Holdings and the Abbeyfield Capital Partnerships

Abbeyfield Financial Holdings was formed with a mission to acquire non strategic assets from European and US groups in the MercoSur region. It commenced investment in 2004 with the acquisition of 78% of Sudameris Bank S.A.E.C.A. from the Intesa Sanpaolo Group and in 2008 increased it’s holding to 98%.

The Abbeyfield Capital Partnerships were initially formed to take advantage of opportunities to acquire distressed commercial loans and/or distressed companies for turnaround and sale. Abbeyfield General Partner, the adviser to the Partnerships, is now diversifying its interests in other sectors such as green energies in South America.
